When Houston Renters Search for Second Chance Apartments

We looked at a year of Google searches across the Houston metro for about 300 terms people use when an eviction, a broken lease or bad credit is getting in the way of an apartment. The pattern is clear: demand jumps in January and October, and dips in the fall.

  • January is the busiest month: about 31,400 searches, roughly 23% above the monthly average.
  • October is the second busiest, at about 29,000 searches.
  • September is the quietest month, at about 22,700 searches.
  • Most months sit between 24,000 and 26,000 searches, so this is steady, year-round demand.

Why January is the busiest month

One likely reason: January is when a lot of people make a fresh start. For renters who were denied before because of their history, it's often the moment they decide to try again, and they start by searching for apartments that will work with their past.

October is strong too, as many people try to get settled before the holidays.

What this means if you're looking now

Busy months mean more people competing for the same second chance units. If your move date is flexible, starting your search a few weeks before the January rush can give you more choices.

Whatever the month, the fastest path is the same: tell us your situation upfront and let our team match you with properties that will consider it.

  • Get started before the January rush, while there are more options.
  • Have proof of income ready for your call with a Counselor.
  • We match you with Partner Properties that review evictions, broken leases and credit case by case.
  • We back your application and stay with you until you're approved and moving in.

How we measured it

We added up Google's monthly search volume for the Houston metro across about 300 related terms, such as second chance apartments, apartments that accept evictions, bad credit apartments, broken lease apartments and felony friendly apartments, from October 2025 to September 2026. Google rounds these numbers, so treat the month-to-month swings as a guide rather than an exact count.
